Calling all students who aspire to be in the medical field. HOSA is the perfect after school club and opportunity for those who are. From dentistry all the way to nursing, HOSA can help you get an inside look to your future in health care.

Health Occupations Students of America, or HOSA for short, is an after-school program for high school students around the United States. Members are brought together once a month by meetings held by their group leader. The meetings often have activities or even have discussions about competition. Individual states hold competitions where members are able to show off their knowledge and skills against other schools. Students can take tests, make posters, or participate in drawing contests. You are even able to win a trip to Nationals to present your project if you place high enough.

“It’s exciting to be in a club that actually interests me, and possibly benefits my future.” Said Brianda Velasquez, who is a Jordan High Hosa member. Jordan High School actually has one of the largest Hosa clubs in the Canyons District. Ms. Lartey is the supervisor, and Senior Austin Tang is Hosa Officer. Together they provide guidance, snacks, plan out meetings and get everything together for upcoming competition. “Being able to go compete against other schools is going to be really fun,” said Brianda, “But we wouldn’t be able to do it without the help of Ms. Lartey and Austin.”

Jordan High’s HOSA will be attending a competition on March 16th and 17th. They will finally be able to show off what they’ve learned this year and will try to rack in some trophies. Wish them luck, and maybe even consider joining next year!
